St. davids parish was part of All Saints Childwall, but the Gladstone end of the parish was quite a distance from the parish church. So the Gladstone mission was built on the opposite side of queens drive. St davids church was concecrated in 1941 at a time when it was almost impossible to build anything which was not at value to the war effort, but St. davids was started before the war so its completion was allowed. It became a

parish before it was complete.
Because of its association with William Gladstone the prime minister, it recieved the font from St Peters, Church Street, where Gladtone was baptised. Later the new church hall was called the Gladstone Hall.
The cost of building it was met by the sale of St. Stephen's, Byrom Street.  The name St. David was chosen because the Bishop of Liverpool at the time was called Augustus David, and it was unlikely any other church would be built while in his reign as bishop. However the chapel is known as St. Stephen's chapel and has a stained glass window of St. Stephen.
The main window is fairly recent and is dedicated to a former vicar, Rev. John o' Ryan, an irishman, so it's theme is the celtic church, The central fiqure is St David and other symbols include the leek, daffodill, Welsh dragon and Irish harp.
The church hall was opened on the 5th of October 1974 by Mrs S. Blanch in the presence of her husband, Stuart Y. Blanch, Lord bishop of Liverpool.
